English For Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL)

Overview

Students may begin ESOL courses with very little or no proficiency in English, and the course material is presented in a blended learning format.

Students build grammar, listening, reading and writing skills throughout all levels of the ESOL courses. Students also engage in classroom activities with their peers and the teacher, in technology-enhanced learning, and in real-world simulations.

A placement test is given upon enrollment to ensure that students receive the proper level of instruction. There are five levels of instruction available, and each level is eight weeks long.

The ESOL prerequisites for major courses include:

  • ESOL Level 1: Placement test score
  • ESOL Level 2: Successful completion of Level 1 or placement test score
  • ESOL Level 3: Successful completion of Level 2 or placement test score
  • ESOL Level 4: Successful completion of Level 3 or placement test score
  • ESOL Level 5: Successful completion of Level 4 or placement test score

Successful completion of ESOL Level 5 allows qualified students to enroll in an academic program at Keiser University without a TOEFL test as prescribed by the University’s admissions policy.

I knew Keiser University was the right choice the moment I stepped on campus.  The coursework was beneficial.  It enlightened my understanding in finance, accounting, and leadership.  The instructors and advisors were readily available to assist me.  While in my last course, I decided to withdraw to support and focus on family.  The advisor was very supportive and guided me through the withdrawal process.  Later I returned and successfully completed the Capstone and received my Master’s degree.  The knowledge I attained at Keiser University allowed me to grow in my career.
