Medical Laboratory Science
Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science prepares students for rewarding careers as part of a health care team, assisting doctors, clinicians and other health care professionals in diagnosing and treating illnesses and preventing diseases. This degree program offers two on-campus paths. The first path is designed for medical laboratory technicians with an associate degree in medical laboratory technology who want to advance their careers and expand their employment opportunities. The second path is for students who desire to pursue their bachelor’s degree directly. Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science offers advanced coursework focused on complex laboratory testing in clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, molecular diagnostics, and other specialty areas.
Medical Laboratory Science
Students enrolled in Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science have the opportunity to develop skills in key areas, including:
- Analyzing blood and bodily fluids
- Performing complex medical testing using sophisticated equipment
- Analyzing, developing, and validating testing methods and comparing testing methodologies in varying circumstances
- Troubleshooting issues with processes and equipment, and constructing viable solutions in fast-paced lab settings
- Collaborating with and assisting other members of a health care team to ensure patients receive optimized care and treatment
In addition to classroom experience, students take part in externships with qualified medical centers and clinical laboratories, enabling them to hone their skills and develop hands-on experience in a real-world setting, opportunities that may prepare them for today’s job market. Graduates will be eligible to sit for national certification exams at the Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technologist levels.
