Nurse Anesthesia Practice: Entry Into Practice, DNAP

Program Overview

Designed for licensed RNs with a BSN degree. 1 year of critical care experience required.

Keiser University’s Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice: Entry Into Practice program graduate will possess advanced competencies for nurse anesthesia practice, faculty, and leadership roles in nurse anesthesia. The program integrates didactic, simulation, and clinical experiences that allow you to study the full scope of Nurse Anesthesia Practice.

The curriculum focuses on preparing registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree to become Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA). BSN graduates can earn their DNAP degree in as few as three years.

Upon completion of the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice: Entry Into Practice program, graduates who fulfill all program requirements will be eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) and upon passing the exam, will become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Nurse Anesthesia Practice: Entry Into Practice, DNAP

Program Objectives

The program curriculum consists of an initial didactic component followed by the clinical component. The program integrates research, pathophysiology, pharmacology, health assessment, general principles of anesthesia, and anesthesia for surgical procedures for application in the clinical setting. During the program of study, students will have the opportunity to apply evidence-based practices through the development of anesthesia care plans and hands-on experience in the operating room.

Additionally, students will complete a capstone project that culminates with the completion of a scholarly work that demonstrates the ability to translate findings into practice, research, education, or administration applicable to nurse anesthesia practice. The dissemination of the final written work product may be in the form of a manuscript submitted for publication, a poster presented at a national meeting, design of innovative clinical practice model, or other effective means of dissemination.

Keiser University’s College of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree offers master’s-prepared registered nurses a comprehensive program of education aimed at helping nursing professionals meet the unique needs of the communities they serve through the highest standards of care and leadership. With an advanced curriculum and real-world application of knowledge and evidence-based research, nurses enrolled in Keiser University’s DNP program will develop skills aimed at improving patient outcomes through improvements in quality, safety and interdisciplinary collaboration. This program aims to fulfill the recommendations of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) guidelines as prescribed in The Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice (October, 2006) and The Doctor of Nursing Practice: Current Issues and Clarifying Recommendations (August, 2015).

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program will prepare the graduate to:

  • Prepare graduate students to obtain the necessary competencies to work in the areas of advanced practice nursing as a nurse leader.
  • Prepare and graduate students with versatile skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and ethical reasoning to embrace opportunities and work through challenges in a global health care environment.

Students in the DNP program attend one 2-day doctoral residency. This is an excellent opportunity for DNP students to meet with their faculty and attend educational sessions that will help them with completing their DNP project. Students will also have the opportunity to interact with other students enrolled in doctoral programs at the Keiser University College of Nursing.

Program Overview

Family nurse practitioners are advanced practice nurses who implement a holistic approach to the primary care of patients and their families. Keiser University’s College of Nursing online Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner program helps provide registered nurses with the advanced knowledge and clinical skills they will need to serve the health care needs of clients across the age spectrum. As an MSN-FNP student, you will receive a strong foundation in health promotion, disease and injury prevention, and the management of acute and chronic diseases. During clinical practicums, you will have the opportunity to apply the skills you have learned in the classroom to real-world health care environments.

Graduates are required to take the Family Nurse Practitioner Board Certification Examination in order to be licensed and to work as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Graduates of the MSN and MSN-FNP programs are also eligible to apply for Keiser University’s College of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.
